Swan Songs #2: Swansea 0-0 Wigan & Swansea 0-0 Sunderland

by Maxwell Kuhl

In my little room,
in my little house,
with day breaking
and the city still
and quiet here
far from Wales
where the day
drawing down,
damp, waiting
and waiting still
and restlessly;
an awkward
morning and evening;
new but not shining;
flighty, reckless,
childlike and dewy.
Each day and game,
each in their own way
bleeding one into
the other over
and over the way
aimless hours have no
start or finish
but hold still fast together
between their
building up
and their
breaking down
and their endless, gorgeous
coming apart and together.
And then the way they
wrapped and
thread together and
not unraveling,
strung hard and fast
and taut like a bowstring
yet to snap, which
may break the bow.
